lets kick this blog off! (old myspace blog re-posted here)

So a quick update to everybody and make sure all are filled in: i made it to alabama on tuesday, April 18! it took me about 3.5 days to drive the 2800 mile trip. the first night i drove 800 miles to Ogden, Utah; the next day 900 miles to Lincoln, Nebraska; then 800 to Nashville, Tennesee; and then finally to Enterprise, Alabama. I got to stay in Nashville for the evening and the better part of the following day - it was an awesome city and i had a blast. i walked across the street from my hotel and listened to live music, ate chicken, and drank beer. Sweet! But i also got super lost and confused while driving downtown Nashville - as Brian pointed out, not ALL big cities in the world are a straightline like Seattle. (Nashville's freeways and streets run in a circle so you truly are driving around in circles!)

Alabama is treating me well so far. I am still trying to adjust to the weather because it is super hot and muggy down here; i constantly feel like i am melting! also, apparently my 'seattle summer clothes' arent going to cut it in the south. so all the jeans i love to wear and the sweaters i own will be shoved to the back of the closet until my seattle return! however, my flip flops are just right!the little things are taking some getting used to: i had to open a new bank account since they have different banks here, i had to shop at walmart because there really isnt any where else to go, and the restaurants are all different (no Red Robin!! and what the hell is PoFolks and Wafflehouse?!). They also do not have any beers on tap, dont sell kegs, have a VERY small selection of beer in the grocery store (you can choose from Milwaukee's Best, Budweiser, Coors, and hmmm... i think that is about it.) There is ONE gym to work out at, ONE movie theater, etc. - which of course is very different from seattle (or any decent sized town for that matter!) it will take some adjusting but it will be okay. its just like the checker at walmart said, "oh hunny you will get used to it down here. we are nice people i promise, just simple rednecks." LOL!

i also think its funny how quickly i have become domesticated. i cooked dinner last night for Brian and his friend, just ran the dishwasher, and threw a load of laundry in. good lord i need to find a job. HA! speaking of finding a job - i am working on it. have a few leads but nothing that i really want to do. i think i am going to hold off the search until next week when i can look at the sunday classifieds in the paper or see if i might be able to do something on base. but if all else fails, Dairy Queen is hiring! YES!! discounts on blizzards!i will keep you all updated on my latest southern adventures by posting blogs and of course calling! i miss everyone already very much and know this will be a huge change for me. i cant wait to see how it plays out, but also realize what i left back home in seattle and that is hard. oh and btw my drunk dialing friends - it is a two hour difference here so when you call me wasted at 2am, its actually 4am! not like i wont answer, just giving you a heads up!
