New York, here i come!

Finally I will get a change of pace this weekend! I am flying to New York to celebrate my best friends Stevie and Kyle’s engagement as well as take advantage of the three day weekend. (Well, technically it wasn’t a three day weekend for me since my boss doesn’t plan to shut the office down on a federal holiday which makes no sense since he is a lawyer and the courts, banks, and post office is closed but whatever. I went ahead and made it a long weekend anyway!) My plan is to only be in the office for a few hours Friday morning and than drive to Atlanta, GA to catch my flight. Sure, it will totally blow having to drive 4 and a half hours just to reach the airport, but saving $300 made up for it. Damn the black hole I live in.

I am not looking forward to flying whatsoever. I actually don’t mind traveling by plane at all; it’s the whole airport process that stresses me out. I hate having absolutely no control of my luggage, the promptness of my arrival at the final destination, the security lines, the check in process, etc. I am also nervous with the new security measures regarding all liquids and gels. Luckily, the new policy allows for small containers of either but still with pretty rigid guidelines. Oh well, I will take what I can get. By the way, I have a random question which I guess I will answer myself tomorrow: since only small amounts of liquids are allowed through security (3oz.), than what is purchasable in the stores near the gates in the terminals? Usually after passing through all security, I would buy a bottle of water and a magazine or two. What now? Can I not purchase the water? Are all soda products removed from the terminal convenience stores? Will they check passenger’s bags again as we board to be certain no one bought such products while waiting? I understand the cautious measures travelers are forced to endure now, but it is still quite aggravating. I don’t even want to imagine the lines for security when Brian and I have to travel over Christmas and New Years.

Also, I am nervous about the Atlanta airport just as I haven’t had good luck with the airport in the past. The check in personnel was incompetent last time as well as the customer service of the security, information desks, and staff was extremely poor. Because of their lack of service, Brian and I missed the boarding of our flight by two minutes and were forced to watch the plane leave without us 15 minutes later. We then had to wait at the airport for over 8 hours for another flight. I am not only flying from the same airport, but the same company which may not seem like a smart decision, but again to save over half of what other ticket prices were, I made sacrifices and leaps of faith. Knock on wood this experience is much more enjoyable… and prompt.

I am not sure what sorts of mischief Stevie and I will get into (and Kyle if we invite him!) but with her it’s always a great time. I am most looking forward to just sitting on the couch and talking with her for hours like we used to be able to do… when were only blocks away from each other instead of states away. The three other highlights I foresee are the engagement party Saturday night, looking at wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses, and shopping at Patricia Field’s new boutique! (Patricia Field was the costume designer for Sex in the City and The Devil Wears Prada; check out her website and merchandise here.
I plan on splurging only once while in New York and it will most likely be at this store!) Some of my favorites include the blue studded hoodie and the candy striped t-shirt. But as usual, my love of fashion is beyond my budget. *sigh*

I will post pictures of Stevie and I partying and being our crazy selves (as well as my fabulous purchases!) once I return. I fly back into Atlanta late Monday night and will return to work the following day so expect details than. Lack of sleep may cause the pictures to be posted later in the week. Is it wrong to be so excited that I have mentally checked out from work by 4:00pm on Thursday and plan on sipping beer while I cook this evening to begin the festivities early? Good, I didn’t think so. Ciao friends! (For you lucky ones, expect drunken phone calls this weekend!)
